Current Resident Projects


Lauren Maldonado, MD (PGY-2)

  • Serves as a Co-Investigator on an RCT evaluating the effect of group-based health education on outcomes among pregnant/parenting adolescents and their children in Eldoret, Kenya with AMPATH.
      
  • Published several manuscripts in 2020-21 on primary and secondary outcome data from a cluster RCT evaluating the effect of a community-led intervention (Chamas for Change) on maternal and child health outcomes during the first 1,000 days of life in rural western Kenya (facility-based deliveries, vaccination adherence, development/positive parenting outcomes – BMJ Global Health, Global Health Science and Practice) 
  • Published a mixed-methods manuscript on the impact of local and national health care worker strikes on provider relationships and health outcomes in rural Kenya (In Press 2021 – BMC Health Services Research) 
  • Serves as a member of the DOM Education Council and DOM Schwartz Committee – Arts & Humanities. 
  • Planning committee member for DOM MGH Health Equity Rounds (HER). 
  • Presented a 2021 DOM HER grand rounds focused on health disparities among liver transplant patients (with fellow Med-Peds colleagues Hanna Elmongy, Mike Kelly, Nora Abo-Sido, and Aisha James).
     
  • Collaborating on two de-novo chapters for the 2022-23 edition of The Mass General Hospital for Children Adolescent Medicine Handbook (health disparities, virtual medicine).  
  • Collaborating with Med-Peds alum Matt Gartland and the MGH Asylum Clinic to help complete medical evaluations for asylum seekers.  
  • Running the 2021 Boston Marathon for the MGH Pediatric Cancer Team (with fellow Med-Peds colleagues Emma Materne, Greg Fricker, and Mike Kelly).

Nora Abo-Sido, MD (PGY-4)

  • Was the Hematology section editor for the MGH Dept. of Medicine House Staff Manual (the White Book)

Greg Fricker: 

  • Running the 2021 Boston Marathon for the MGH Pediatric Cancer Team (with fellow Med-Peds colleagues Emma Materne, Lauren Maldonado, and Mike Kelly). 
  • Participating in a DOM initiative on Debriefing Difficult Patient Interactions and Reducing Patient Labeling 

Mike Kelly, MD (PGY-4)

Department of Medicine Anti-Racism or Equity 

  • Designed and developed an individualized mentoring strategy to improve anti-racism and equity for internal medicine residency educational content 
  • Focused on evaluation and assessment of training and impact 

Health Equity Rounds

  • Implemented and organized first departmental Health Equity Rounds, grand rounds focused on the impact of racism and structural inequity on patient care 
  • Broadened scope to start initiative for both Pediatrics and Internal Medicine grand rounds
  • Formerly a planning committee member for Massachusetts Residents and Fellows Day at the Statehouse. Presented noon conference on structural racism in medical education. 
  • QI project to reduce the number of clotted CBCs in the NICU.
  • Worked on numerous Med Ed research projects including looking at attending versus resident understanding of teaching and feedback, narrative evaluation quality, evaluations for bias in the evaluation of medical students, and using interprofessional education to improve management of the social determinants of health.
  • Presented work at the MGHfC Pediatric Medical Education Summit on improving the efficacy of written feedback.

MGH Internal Medicine Leadership Curriculum Committee

  • Assisted in leading the design and implementation of the residency leadership program 
  • Devised and incorporated Junior Resident Leadership reflection creating a session for new leaders to reflect on their experience through a leadership framework

Running the Boston Marathon

Miranda Ravicz (Class of 2023)

  • Participating in a DOM initiative on Debriefing Difficult Patient Interactions and Reducing Patient Labeling 
  • Traveled to Beirut to attend conference on palliative care in the Middle East and assisted with writing WHO brief on the meeting.
  • Drafted manuscript describing intervention in a refugee settlement in Uganda for improving linkage to HIV care.

Audrey Carr (Class of 2023)

  • Wrote a case report of concurrent dermatomyositis and myocarditis

Sagar Raju (Class of 2023)

  • Ongoing collaboration with the Commonwealth Care Alliance working on intensive primary care design for a dual-eligible complex care patient population. Presented at the Harvard Medical School Primary Care Conference.
